"Since then every DVD-ROM must contain hardware region code which the user can change 5 times, then send back to the manufacturer which can reset that counter 4 times. Can someone please explain what this means in a simple form . Thanks"

DVD movies have region codes, and they typically only play on a player or DVD-ROM drive sold in the country where the DVD movie was sold. The DVD Region Code can usually be found on the back of the DVD's package.

What is the DVD Region Code?

DVDs sold globally are typically encoded to restrict their use to specific locations. That is, a DVD assigned a specific 'Region Code' can only be played within the areas specified in that Region Code.

DVD regional locking is used to control which DVD movies play in which countries or groups of countries. Movies are often released on different dates around the world. Region 1 has its own player that will only play Region 1 discs. Likewise, Region 2 players can only play Region 2 discs and not play any of Region 1's discs. Generally, the DVD world is separated into the following geographical regions.

The eight codes are:

It is therefore important that you make sure that the DVD(s) you are buying are compatible with your DVD player.

Part II: Backup 2014 Hottest Movies to Mac with all audio tracks and subtitle streams

With the top 10 Hottest Movies above upcoming, more and more office workers want to buy their favorite ones in Blu-ray/DVDs for watching at home or sharing with friends and family. However, it's still not a good idea to take out Blu-ray/DVD discs frequently due to scratch issues, which means you can search for an ideal tool that can backup Blu-rays/DVDs to MKV without quality loss on Mac for freely movie entertainment whenever and wherever you want.

It's rather disappointing that most ripping software simply compress Blu-ray/DVD to MKV container format with codec like H.264, AVC, ect., the converted video is downsized which doesn't works well. Here I recommended you to take a look at Pavtube ByteCopy for Mac.

I have tried it and wow, it works like a charm! It's so easy to use, converts very fast and output lossless videos, with all audio tracks and subtitle streams keeping! Below is my workflow on Mac.

Required Tool:
Pavtube ByteCopy for Mac | Review

Operation system:

  • Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks, 10.8 Mountain Lion, 10.7 Lion, Snow Leopard 10.6.
  • 1G Hz or above Intel processor.
  • 1GB physical RAM (memory) or above.
  • 1024*768 or higher resolution display.
  • Optical Drive: DVD drive for ripping DVD and BD drive required for ripping Blu-ray disc
Tips:

1. There's 6 times limitation if you use the trial version to output lossless MKV files;
2. This program also has a Windows version which works for Windows 8.1/Windows 8/Windows 7/Windows Vista/2003/XP find the ByteCopy (windows) here.

How to lossless backup Blu-ray to MKV with keeping multi-track and subtitles?

Step 1. Launch Pavtube ByteCopy for Mac and load disc.

Firstly you need an external blu-ray drive; there's no special requirements of the drive model as long as it's supported by your Mac.

Click the top left icon and it will detect the inserted Blu-ray disc, click disc name to load them.

Step 2. Choose lossless format.

Click "Format" list and select "Multi-track Video>Lossless/encoded Multi-track MKV(*.mkv)" as below.

Step 3. Adjust V/A settings.

Click "Settings" to enter Multi-track video profile window; switch to "Video" and find the "Encode" box which is unchecked by default, so if you want a lossless MKV copy, do not touch it.

The switch to "Audio", check wanted audio track; so does the "Subtitles".

Step 4. Start backing up Blu-ray/DVD to lossless MKV

Click the big "Convert" to start the conversion. It takes about 40 mins for my Macbook to backup a Blu-ray disc, but the conversion speed also depends on your computer configuration. My suggestion is not to play or edit videos when it's converting. After conversion, click "Open" or "Open output folder" to quick locate converted files.

Ok now the lossless MKV files are prepared and you can enjoy Blu-ray/DVD movies on any portable device and media players without quality loss!

With the beginning of another month, come another slew of great movies. From the highly anticipated sequels to movies like ‘300’ to some women-oriented movies like ‘Gulaab Gang’ and ‘Queen’, these are the four movies to watch out for the first week in March 2014.

    1. Queen

We are going to forgive Kangana Ranaut for the past few disasters like ‘Krrish 3’ and ‘Rajjo’ just because of this upcoming comedy. ‘Queen’, releasing March 7, is the story of a bride whose groom abandons her, so she decides to take her honeymoon alone in London. A story of self-discovery with a lot of fun and comedy along the way, ‘Queen’ also stars Lisa Haydon.

    2. Total Siyapaa

A romcom that promises to give its money’s worth is ‘Total Siyapaa’. A Pakistani boy in London encounters the eccentric family of the Indian girl he is going to marry and chaos ensues. From the makers of ‘A Wednesday’ and ‘Special 26’, this movie will star Ali Zafar, Yami Gautam, Anupam Kher and Kirron Kher.

    3. Gulaab Gang

Based on the actual group of women vigilantes from UP, the Gulabi Gang, ‘Gulaab Gang’ (March 7) will see Madhuri Dixit dishing violence out to the bad guys – feminist style. One reason you must definitely watch this movie is because it brings together onscreen two of the biggest names from the 90s – Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla, and that too in a head-on collision against each other.

    4.  300: Rise of an Empire

If none of the earlier ones excite you, this is one that will definitely get you going. The much-awaited sequel to ‘300’ releases March 7.
